FS#453 - compilation problems

I have the following problem compiling irssi on solaris10 sun4v:

ar cru .libs/libperl_core_static.a .libs/perl-core.o .libs/perl-common.o .libs/perl-signals.o .libs/perl-sources.o
ar: cannot open .libs/perl-core.o
No such file or directory
ar: cannot open .libs/perl-common.o
No such file or directory
ar: cannot open .libs/perl-signals.o
No such file or directory
ar: cannot open .libs/perl-sources.o
No such file or directory
ar: .libs/perl-core.o not found
ar: .libs/perl-common.o not found
ar: .libs/perl-signals.o not found
ar: .libs/perl-sources.o not found
gmake[3]: *** [libperl_core_static.la] Error 4
gmake[3]: Leaving directory `/home/mn/src/irssi-0.8.10/src/perl'

mentioned should be in src/perl/.libs/ but are in src/perl, moreover their extension is .lo not .o as stated in the Makefile so I have copied them to the right location hoping it'll solve the issue, there was more other similar problem.
Then I have gotten a lot of

gcc: language XXXX not recognized

where XXXX = arch=v8, -xspace, -xildoff, -KPIC

Fixed the by editing makefiles

In the end I've got this:
ld: warning: file ../perl/.libs/libperl_core_static.a ignored: unable to locate archive symbol table

which is too much for one day, see config.log below.
